2 CLASSICS IN CHAMBLY

Description of this illustration project

This illustration was used as part of a list of classic car shows to see in the Montreal and Monteregie area. The list was published on a classic car information blog. One requirement was that the cars had to be drawn with high level of details.

The idea was to have a pre-war car and a 1960's car in front of Fort Chambly. The cars chosen were the 1928 Chrysler Imperial and the 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado. This is a place that is associated with one of the most beautiful classic car exhibitions venues in Quebec.

The illustration was produced from the pictures of the collection of the classic car blog.

Technical specifications of the illustration

- Dimensions: 17 inches wide

- Format provided: jpeg

- Realization time: 3 days

- Techniques used:

   - Lead pencil on paper for the contour lines

   - Colors were added in an illustration software

   - Addition of a texture to create effects of traditional techniques

The line drawing

The 2 vintage cars have been photographed separately. A photo montage was made in order to know their location in the final illustration.

The final line drawing was made from the photomontage which shows the elements placement to all the decision-makers of the project.

The color process

The coloring of the linear drawing was done according to the photomontage of the beginning. The final rendering was faded to give a slightly watercolor look.

The line drawing was tinted brown to enhance the vintage look and feel of the illustration.

The publication context

The illustration was used as the main image of a French article that highlight 6 classic car shows held in Quebec.

The illustration was also used to promote the article on social media and in the Lemireart newsletter.
